Learn to Sail
For beginners we offer a weekend sailing taster called Start Yachting, this course is designed for those who want to give Sailing a try but don’t want to commit yet to the full Competent Crew course. Once you complete the Start Yachting course you can build in this with a further weekend of training to complete the RYA Competent Crew.
Completed over 2 x Weekends or 5 days Monday to Friday, this is a beginners course to teach you all the controls, sail trimming, boat handling and steering. We complete short trips to other locations and try out anchoring to have lunch and coming into different marinas. You will come away from this course a very useful member of any boat, ideal if you are going away on a charter holiday, crewing on a racing boat or just want a fun week out on the water.
This is the main aim for most people, if you own a boat or looking to charter or rent boats then this course gives you all the confidence and knowledge you need to be a skipper. Before going on the Day skipper course you must at least of completed the Competent crew or have the equivalent experience and please ask if you are unsure if you are ready.
The course has two elements, the Dayskipper theory which you can complete online or in the classroom and then the 5 day practical course. The theory course covers all the navigation, tides, collision regulations, weather and passage planning. You will then put all this into practice and the practical course planning and completing some trips along the coast as skipper, this really prepares you with practical experience. The course also covers loads of practical skills from coming along sides, anchoring, picking top a person overboard and other emergency situations, plus lots of best sailing of the boat and crew safety.
If you have been skippering practicing all those skills from the Day Skipper course and want to start sailing longer trips exploring areas further away the Coastal Skipper course is designed for day and night navigation, taking you from day hoping to best practices for sailing longer trips, a perfect example would be the 100 mile plus trip from Barcelona to Mallorca or 60 miles plus heading north to get to amazing Costa Brava locations like Cadaques where you need to sail throughout the day and evening to reach these and all the planning to do this.
The Yachtmaster is an exam with an authorised MCA/RYA examiner, often stressful but with huge reward that brings massive opportunities in the boating worlds whether to become a commercial skipper or work up the ranks on the Super Yachts.
