RYA Personal Watercraft Instructor



As a PWC instructor, you will be able to run the RYA’s Personal Watercraft Proficiency course, but more importantly, you can also run the RYA’s new Introduction to PW Safety course, which is specifically aimed at guests on Superyachts.


The course content includes:

  • Principles of practical instruction
  • Lesson planning
  • Teaching styles & use of questioning
  • Preparation & use of visual aid
  • The structure of the scheme
  • Planning progressive teaching sessions
  • Preparation of boats & equipment
  • Teaching methods to PWC proficiency level

Duration: 3 days including an independent examination on the last day.

Ratio: 2 to each PWC, minimum number 3 people and maximum of 6 using 3 PWC’s.

Prerequisites: At least 2 seasons experience of driving PWC’s, PWC proficiency certificate and a valid first aid certificate.

Course Includes: Rental and fuel, all instructors need to become an RYA member at £50 for the first year.

Course Extras: RYA Powerboat Instructors handbook for €30, Passport photo required for certificate. You will need suitable clothing for being out on the water and getting wet, board shorts and rash vest or wetsuit and towel depending on the time of year. Also bring lunch or money for lunch.
